Sam and Max: Hit The Road

The first time I played Sam and Max: Hit the Road was when I was in elementary school. My sister had a habit of borrowing PC games from the library, and I'd find myself playing the games too, because she'd force me too. I found out that the game is free to download now online as long as you can find a way to execute it. It's a very old game, so you're going to need a DOS emulator. I used DOSbox, but ScummVM maybe considered a little more "user friendly", but not by much.

I didn't even know there was a comic book and a TV show and new 3d games for Sam and Max until I found the show on
Netflix. The show wasn't as good as my memories of playing the game so I went on a mission to figure out how to get it playing on my laptop. Once I got it running, I realized, "Oh shit, no manual!" It was really weird playing a point and click game that was not a flash game, so it took me awhile to figure out the controls. F1 will take you to your save and load, Space pauses the game, right click chooses what actions you want to use and left click acts on the action presented on your cursor. It made me realize how lucky I am to be alive too see the existence of a 3DS.

Sam and Max is about, Sam a laid-back yet justice driven dog and Max a psychopathic Rabbit. They are both private investigators, also known as the Freelance Police. They both have a passion for solving crime in the most ridiculous and destructive manner. If you're into point and click game this is a game for you. There are tons of puzzles to solve and you'll find yourself sucked in. You'll definitely have to think more on your loony belligerent side if you want to solve the puzzles the "right" way(In other words Sam and Max's way). Most of the time that you find yourself stuck, you probably just need to pick up Max and throw him against a wall or throw him off a railing.

My rating: 7 psycho swamp rabbits out of 10 dogs with guns

This game is a classic for all point and click game lovers, and I'm pretty sure I liked it a lot more when I was younger when the humor was still fresh. Replaying it now, I am still surprised to see Max getting electrocuted willingly, with a huge crazy grin on his face. Some part felt a little slow, and I'm the impatient type, so that knocked off a few brownie points for me. If you've never played Sam and Max before starting with the old DOS games may not be for you, but you can get the new Telltale 3D Sam and Max for the PC, XBox, and Wii. The 4th game of the new series is also free for the PC you can check it out. Though I have to warn you, some of the transitions may feel extremely slow much the the DOS game.
